Climate Change

The Earth is a beautiful place we are lucky to call home. It's the only planet we'll ever have to live on, so we need to take care of it. If we lose the Earth, we lose humanity too. If it's so important to take care of our planet, why are we disrespecting it and destroying it only to increase our wealth? - Because our wealth won't be as important when climate change has gone too far, and we can no longer save our planet, along with our own lives.

As ABC News states, "Just 100 companies worldwide are responsible for 71% of the worlds industrial greenhouse gas emissions since 1988." The longer we wait to change this, the more difficult it's going to be to fix.

Since climate change is increasing so fast, what can we do to help? We can help the environment by cutting back on substances that harm the planet. For instance, using fossil fuels to power your home is slowly but surely hurting our earth. As an alternative, you could install solar panels or windmills - using the environments natural resources. They may be expensive to install, but the cost will be worth it after using them for only about 8 years. (energysage)

If you don't want spend lots of money of new installments, there are still cheaper ways to help save our world. For example, biking or walking instead of driving when possible, to minimize your carbon usage. Cutting out single use plastics and Styrofoams is also helpful to our earth so they don't end up in landfill. In addition, cutting back on beef consumption is beneficial to the environment because the beef industry has the largest carbon footprint out of any other meet industries.

Taking a simple step towards benefiting the environment could result in a lot more than you may think. For instance, say you used a plastic cup instead of a reusable cup. You use the cup for one minute, and you throw it away when you're done. It'll make it's way to the town dump, and will eventually end up in the ocean. The cup could so easily get stuck around an animals head and suffocate them until they die. Let alone, after that the cup would remain in landfill until it decomposes; for at least 450 years. Some will say it won't matter if they recycle or cut back on plastics / beef consumption because it would barely make any difference towards the environment. Individually, one person cannot solve our climate crisis. But if everyone worked together and only used the plastic and carbon that they need, then we would save our earth from dying.

Climate change is a huge issue that lots of people are refusing to face. People are only concerned about themselves and their own wealth, not caring that the earth is dying due to their actions. If climate change continues to be denied for much longer, our planet will be too damaged to fix, causing humans and other animals to go extinct.

    I think this is important for the earth including the wild animals because we shouldn't destroy their homes as in woods and etc.

    You've identified some of the problems facing the environment; you mention that one of the causes of these problems is people being overly concerned about their own wealth. Is there evidence of that as a specific cause?

      Yes, a lot of environmental issues are caused by wealth, because there are healthier options for the environment, such as solar energy or wind energy. Or also, how recycled plastic is more expensive than new plastic. People could use environmental friendly alternatives, but they're simply too expensive.

      I believe reusable energy is the most important alternative to benefit the environment, simply because of how much global warming fossil fuels produce.

Coral Reefs When you think of where the Earth's oxygen comes from, you probably first think of trees. The surprising part is, trees and plants only produce 1/3 of the air we breathe - the rest of it comes from the ocean. Coral reefs generate as much as 1/2 of the Earths oxygen. Little are many people aware, our coral reefs are dying at a rapid increase, due to global warming and pollution made by humans. If the coral reefs continue to keep dying out, the rest of the world won't be able to produce enough oxygen to keep humanity or other animals alive. Slowly but surely, bees have been dying at a rapid increase. Their population has been reported as declining ever since the 1990's. The number of bee colonies have declined as much as 90% since 1962. Scientificamerican Bees are dying out mainly due to pesticides. Lots of food industries have been using plant seeds coated neurotoxins, designed to help the plants grow faster. The neurotoxins move through the plant as it grows, and intoxicates the bees when they pollinate it. This makes them extremely sick, and most of the time causes them to die. The bee population has also been decreasing due to habitat loss, humans being the main cause of this. As humans continue to expand their cities and communities, trees and plants will need to be cut down to allow space for construction sites.
